My story

One decision that changed everything

"For the first 22 years of my life, I never stepped outside Bihar. That one decision to come to Delhi changed everything."
— Ankit Kumar, founder of DilliYatra

I come from Lakhisarai, Bihar. For the first 22 years of my life, I never stepped outside my state. In 2022, I came to Delhi to complete my master's in Museology from the National Museum Institute of History of Art, Conservation and Museology. That one decision changed my life.

I truly love museums — not just as buildings with old objects, but as spaces full of stories, history, emotions, and knowledge. Museology is popular in Western countries, but in India it has only started gaining real attention. For me, it was never just a course. It was a calling.

"Delhi mein problem nahi hai, problem logon mein hai." — Your experience of this city depends entirely on your mindset and the people around you.

From 2022 to 2025, Delhi became more than a city for me — it became home ❤️. I explored almost every major monument and museum, rode the Metro daily, discovered hidden cafés, and fell in love with this city's chaos, energy, and warmth. Today, if you ask me about Delhi — heritage, food, travel, or hidden spots — I can guide you like a local friend.

Life also took an unexpected turn: I now work as a full-time SEO specialist, while continuing to build DilliYatra. At first it felt surprising, but slowly I started enjoying it — and today I'm growing in both worlds, every single day.

What keeps me here

Why Delhi is unlike anywhere else

As someone who chose Delhi — not born into it — these are the things that made me fall in love and never want to leave.

🏛️
Museums & monuments
I studied Museology here for a reason. No city in India has this density of history — Mughal, colonial, ancient — all in one place.
🚇
Delhi Metro life
I experienced daily Delhi life through the Metro. It's how I discovered neighbourhoods, people, and corners of this city no guidebook mentions.
🍢
Street food
From chaat in Old Delhi to dhabas open at 3am — every lane has something extraordinary, and most of it costs ₹30.
Chai culture
Four cups a day is the minimum. Chai is how Delhi thinks, argues, rests, and starts again. It's the city's heartbeat.
🌿
Hidden gems
Agrasen Ki Baoli between office towers. Mehrauli forest at dusk. Delhi rewards the curious — you just have to know where to look.
❤️
It became home
Delhi is not perfect. It has traffic, chaos, and problems. But I fell in love with all of it — and today, this is where I belong.
My journey

A Delhi life in chapters

Lakhisarai, Bihar — first 22 years
Growing up, never leaving Bihar
For the first 22 years of my life, I never stepped outside my state. I always had a deep love for history, heritage, and museums — but Delhi was a world away. That was about to change.
2022 — 2024
Master's in Museology at NMI, Delhi
I came to Delhi to study at the National Museum Institute of History of Art, Conservation and Museology. I completed my MA in Museology — a field I genuinely love. Over these two years, I explored almost every major monument, museum, and hidden corner of the city.
Dec 2024 — present
SEO specialist — an unexpected turn
Life doesn't always go according to plan. I started working as a full-time SEO specialist — unexpected at first, but I slowly started enjoying it. Today I'm building skills in both digital and heritage worlds, growing every day.
2026
DilliYatra goes live
I started DilliYatra because I kept meeting travellers who were missing the best parts of my city. My first article was published with zero readers — but the city had too many stories waiting to be told, so I kept going.
Today
Still here, still writing
2,400+ readers, 50+ articles, and a map of Delhi that's still not complete. Delhi became my home ❤️. This website is my way of sharing that journey with you — I hope you enjoy seeing Delhi through my eyes.
